Picture Prompt

If you were a Stranger here, the dark clouds that rolled in – flashing and roaring – would send you to your knees in prayer for forgiveness from the Gods, trying desperately to soothe their terrifying anger with promises of ‘I’ll do better’.

But if you asked, then a Homelander would tell you that the Gods aren’t angry. No. Today, they were celebrating. It was The Cull; and no soul in Hragar was safe from the storm’s test.

Today, of all days, I would finally see if I am to be among the Gods, drinking honey mead from bejewelled horns, and gorging on roasted meats, aged cheeses, sweet pickled onions, and cakes filled with succulent currants, while stamping my feet to echo across the sky in my claim to power and immortality.

That’s what us Homelander’s dreamed of; to ride the storm in an eternity of joyous celebration.
